BMW and MotoGP didn’t just go with the street-going M2 CS, they chose the real McCoy.

This is the first time a real racecar has been used for the MotoGP pace car. The choice makes sense, especially considering BMW M’s deep history in motorsports, as well as being a MotoGP series partner since 1999. The design and car choice is also part of the celebration of 50 years of BMW M.

The M2 CS Racing is a factory-built racecar that I’ve blogged about in the past. It comes off the factory floor with a cage, extensive safety equipment, and a spec that is far from street legal, but it can be easily integrated into various racing series around the planet. It makes for a potent player in international GT and Touring Car racing.

It’ll be so cool to see a race-tuned, four-wheeled vehicle out there with its race-tuned, two-wheeled counterparts. The 2022 MotoGP season opens on March 6 with the Grand Prix of Qatar, but until then, here’s another angle of this livery that I absolutely love.
