Cyberpunk 2077 might’ve been kind of a critical and commercial flop, but lord, the genre is absolutely fascinating to look at. Recently, Twitter user Sylvain Decaux announced a new addition to their family in an amazing, eye-catching way: through animation. Not just any ol’ Adobe Premiere created Steamboat Willie-esque animation, no, one chock full of Anime and pop culture references. Oh, and a cool six-speed manual Cyberpunk-styled Volvo V70.

Just look at it! Watch the wagon careen around a stylized super-urban night sky, whilst heavy synth music plays in the background. The Volvo looks as if it could share a garage with Johnny Silverhand’s Porsche 911. It’s so dope, y’all.

The attention to detail in this short animation is oh so good. Did you catch the “1 baby” go-to “2 Baby” as the driver (presumably Sylvan) shifted into second gear? Sure it’s no spaceball shifter, but it’s still pretty amazing!

Clearly, Declaux (Urbanmelon on ArtStation and Instagram) is a bit of a gearhead themselves. I mean, hello, gated manual six-speed V70? Their car artwork reeks of 1980s chic cyber-futurism but also crossed with anime references too. Like, here’s a caricature of a Renault 5 Turbo, but driven by Totoro, of Studio Ghilbi’s “My Neighbor Totoro”. The little eyes in the headlight and “uwu” style license plate tell us that this Renault 5 Turbo, is actually a cool new Catbus. Nifty, right?

They added some more info to their Twitter thread with a tiny bit of background on how the clip was made:

I have immense respect for this person — animation and art like this is hard. It takes sketching skills, immense creativity, and superb knowledge of many different (and expensive) computer programs. Declaux admits it took much longer to make the video than it did to gestate the baby!

Give Sylvan Declaux a follow, y’all. It looks like they’ve done a lot of very cool vehicular art you might enjoy.
