Best Neck Knife

A knife is something many of us think we should have on us at all times, but they can sometimes be hard to properly store. Pocket knives are a great option but not always the best one, considering you may not always have free pocket space. Not to mention, folding knives are usually not as strong as a fixed blade knife and might not be the best tool for the job at hand. However, a fixed blade knife comes with its own carry challenges. A good solution to this is a neck knife. For those of you that are scratching your head right now, a neck knife is exactly what it sounds like. A knife on a chain or paracord that you can wear like a lanyard. While there are almost as many styles of neck knives as any other type of knife, all good neck knives have a few things in common. They do not fold, they come with a sheath, and they come with a chain or cord for wearing around your neck. That’s not to say some aren’t better than others though. We’ve compiled a list of the best neck knives to help you find a good one for you. Check out what we managed to come up with.

The CRKT Minimalist Bowie Neck Knife is easily the best overall neck knife on the market right now. The minimalist design was created by custom knife maker Alan Folts in Melbourne, Florida. The 6.75-inch knife features a 2.125-inch 5Cr15MoV steel blade with a bead blasted finish and a resin-infused fiber handle. The handle is very ergonomic, thanks to its deep finger grooves, and it fits well in every size hand. It also includes a fob for an extended grip ensuring that it will not slip. The included custom fitted sheath is super nice as well. It is made of glass-reinforced nylon and has a paracord for inverted carry as a neck knife. While this particular knife is a clip-point bowie style knife, the Minimalist line is available in many different styles.

The MTECH Fixed Blade Neck Knife is a great value selection. It features a black stainless steel blade and a black grenade style handle. Although this knife is designed as a neck knife it includes a chain and a pocket clip for a versatile carry. Its small size, only 4.25-inches, makes it very easy to conceal and, even though it does have some weight to it, you could easily forget that it is there. The hole in the center of the blade acts as a finger or thumb hole while also helping to secure the knife in the nylon fiber sheath. Although the edge is not very sharp, it does have a very sharp point making it really only good for one thing. Nothing fancy here, just a solid, inexpensive neck knife that’ll be there when you need it.

With its small 4.8-inch size and straight edge, clip point blade design, the SOG Instinct Mini is the best small neck knife. The full tang knife features a 5CR15MOV stainless steel blade with a satin finish. It is ergonomic and easy to hold thanks to the textured G10 handle with finger grooves and jimping for maximum control. It includes a swivel clip sheath and a neck chain for versatility. This knife is easy to carry the way you want to carry it and fits perfectly on a belt, in a boot, or discreetly around your neck. Do not let the small size fool you, this knife has full-sized features, but for those that want a bit more, the Instinct is available in a 5.9-inch version.

The Ka-Bar BK11 Becker Necker Neck Knife is the most versatile knife on the market. This is a super lightweight skeletonized neck knife made by a reputable company that has gained the trust of the military. The full tang knife is made of 1095 Cro-Van steel that has a bottle opener on the butt of the handle and comes with an injection-molded, glass-filled nylon sheath and a 550 paracord. The sheath, which has a locking device to retain the blade, is compatible with the Ka-Bar TDI metal belt clip for versatility in carrying options and a custom Micarta handle set is available for those that do not like the skeleton style knives. This is a very good knife that can be carried and set up the way that you want it to be.

The Morakniv Eldris Fixed-Blade Pocket-Sized Knife is the best neck knife for the outdoorsman. It was the winner of the 2016 Scandinavian Outdoor Award based on functionality, quality, innovation, design, and sustainability. It is easy to tell why just by looking at the knife. The 2.2-inch Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel blade is razor-sharp with exceptional hardness, and the anti-slip handle works well in wet and cold conditions. This neck knife comes with a hard plastic sheath, a fire starter, a paracord, and a secondary lock. Although the blade is relatively thin, the Scandi Grind makes it good for everything — from carving to batoning and many other demanding outdoor activities. This knife is designed for use in the harshest of conditions and when carried as a neck knife, you can be sure it will be there when you need it.
