As Far as Supercars Go These Two Feel Like Opposites
This could be "light and dark" in supercar form.
There might not be two companies with philosophies farther apart than Porsche and Ferrari. I mean, both make very fast spaceships with huge price tags, but they have fundamentally different brand values. Porsche focuses on understated but excellent driving experiences with a knack for the practical and Ferrari is all about the theatre of driving, the thrill of a proper engine, and that prancing horse on the nose of the car. What we have in this image might be that relationship visually defined.

Of course, this was one of my many Friday hangs on Angeles Crest Highway, where I feel like my world is unreal and I get to see ridiculous metal being mostly used for its intended purpose. These two cars are owned by friends, and I enjoy both of them very much. I’ve taken a ride in the 812 and I’ve never felt poorer. That 6.5-liter V12 engine is probably the greatest ever made, and the way it generates power is scary for a passenger.
Meanwhile, we have the relatively docile GT3 Touring, which is perhaps the driver’s car of all driver’s car. Again, I’ve never felt poorer. The 4.0-liter flat-six in that car is so sonorous, so musical, it’s hard not to fall for the baleful wail that turns into a valve-overlapping hurried shriek. It’s the old fashioned way of making a sports car, still being made today.
If I had the sort of money to afford either, I would have a really tough time choosing. Something about that Ferrari makes me want to say that I’d want it. But then, I don’t care for the Ferrari owner stigma, or the attention. Yeah, it’s going to be the Touring for me.
