Hi, I drive a modified Mahindra MM550XD. It is a bare bone 4x4 with an early 70s Peugeot XD3P 2.5l diesel engine, 4+1 main gearbox, 2 speed transfercase and a PTO. I have lowered the axle ratios, added some underbody protection, snorkel, taller shackles, some body mods, waterproofed the electricals (WIP), installed a rollcage etc. The vehicle has some flaws like sliding mesh 1st and reverse gears, no overdrive etc. But I love straightforward honest vehicles, which are becoming rare today.

No kidding. At least you can look at the engine of your car and see what everything is, instead of just looking at a plastic cover with the manufacturer name on it :-)

+1 Chris & Alfa Its hard to even see a proper throttle actuator these days! And come to think of the good ol carbs or good old and ever so reliable rotary distributor diesel pumps are no more considered "funky" and its just the decorated plastic bits which steal the show! perhaps signs of things to come ?? (read: more plastic, more EVs/hybrids!) btw, i own a 1975 Fiat 1100 and a 2005 Suzuki Swift 1.3 petrol. So nothing great... the Fiat is the first car i picked up my driving skills in... especially needing the double-declutching with the non-synchro 1st gear to synchro 2nd gear changes! Swift is a fun-filled hatchback... but thts about it... i am more of a biker than a cager...

As you can see from my avatar , I've got a new car now. I've outgrown the Hyundai Coupé , and needed something with more space and power. I now have a 1998 Subaru Impreza GT Turbo. All I have to say about it is , IS A FREAKING AWESOME CAR

Hi Guys and Gals,
This is my first post so I thought I should start off with what I drive.
We have a 2006 Mazda 6 3.0L V6 6sp ATX with 53k on the clock. Love the car so far. We've had it for 7 months and although it did have a rather serious issue not long after we brought it (valve body in the gearbox, common so I'm told) it drives well and has the power I need for a family car. Having just arrived in the US from New Zealand we'll be doing quite a bit of traveling around and I think the Mazda 6 will do the job nicely.
What do I want in the future? No real big aspirations in regard to the family tourer, as long as it's comfortable it'll be fine. The project car however will be a late 60's Mustang sometime in the future... one day :-)
Cheers Paul

A Kiwi eh? Welcome to the US (from an ex Brit). Did you move to TX by choice or because of work?

Hey Chris,
The move to the US was because of work which is a radio company (PD, FD, EMS etc. as well as Utility companies). Been with them for 15 years and the opportunity to work in the US was too good to pass up. We're (wife and two daughters) are enjoying it very much so far and being very much involved in dirt track speedway in NZ means that I'm in hogheaven here in the US :-) And the rest I'll put in the New Members Say Hello thread :-)
Cheers Paul
